During the Closed Beta I saw a post by Elessaria asking us to streamline the loot collection turn-in process. I had never given those missions a great deal of thought before. They seemed clunky and time consuming, but we had our sights on other things for most of the expansion’s development. When I saw that post, it got me looking in to how we handled the distribution of loot items: their level-banding and rarity, their value, and the difficulty in using them for their intended purpose. I found a lot of places where we could smooth out the process and increase the value of the choice to turn-in those loot items or sell them.
One thing we’ve done with the new Collection Exchange Shops is to place them on every Junk Buyer in a region. Guyana, Florida, New Spain and the Bahamas all share a shop that features the exchanges for low level loot (items available from NPCs under level 16). Louisiana, Mexico, New Grenada, and the Yucatan all share a shop that features the exchanges for mid level loot (looted from NPCs under level 26). All the ports on the island of Hispaniola share a shop for loot from NPCs under level 35; likewise Cuba for loot from NPCs under level 40, the upper Antilles (from San Juan to St. John’s) for loot from NPCs under level 45, and the lower Antilles (from Pointe-a-Pitre to de L’Ilse) for the rarest loot. Trading in these goods will still require a bit of sailing, but all you need to do is land in the first port in the region that has your desired exchange to complete your transaction.
Furthermore, we have done some number crunching and decided to increase the value of low level loot in order to give new players another way to generate capital while roaming the Open Sea. The high level loot values have been changed slightly; some have been increased, others decreased, all to fit their adjusted rarity and level-banding. Another exchange we have worked to add to the game is the Career Reward Exchange Shop. With the introduction of stacking penalties, a whole boat-load of ship tuning, and Brawling as a new AvCom school, the rewards players once picked for their career missions may not be the rewards they would now wish they had. Bring in the reward you originally chose and swap it for one that better suits your current needs!
To ease the transition between old builds and new, we have added an exchange to a variety of NPCs associated with the career missions. Pirates may talk to Captain Kidd to swap their outfittings. Naval officers will want to talk to April Halloway (British), Damien Dessain (French), or Golarte Serrano (Spanish) in the Naval Headquarters in their capital. Privateers will find the exchange on Captain Blood (British), Comte Sang (French), or Don Sangre (Spanish) in the privateer clubhouse in their capital. Freetraders may trade with Miles Notman (British), Noelle L’Allemand (French), or Madelena Arcega (Spanish) in the Tradehouse in their capital.
As always, your feedback is, was, and will be appreciated. I personally cannot wait for you, the players, to have your hands on Power & Prestige, and start remaking the face of the Caribbean!
